Let's face it, we all have junk drawers, or places that we store mismatched items or things that we no longer need, but can't throw away because they could be useful. Well, when you finally do decide to do a little spring cleaning, why not post them on eBay or Craigslist! Something that might not be of any use to you may come in handy to someone in your area, or even halfway across the globe! This is a perfect way to get spare cash when you're in a pinch, saving for college, a new laptop, or just want some extra money around come vacation time. Each site is easy to maneuver and get things sold in a window of time. Lets go through a few pros and cons of each site.
eBay:
Pros:
+ If you wanted to get something sold in say, 5 days, you could with eBay's listing options.
+ People love to fight over the auction items, which will make the price spike in your favor.
+ Sell worldwide or nationwide.
+ Safe transactions through Paypal.
Cons:
- After each sale there are fees that will be deducted from the sale price, and with the use of premium features, there could be extra expenses.
- You can't always edit major things once your listing is active without having to delete your listing. Examples: time frame or switching from buy it now to plain auction.
- Not for larger items like couches and china cabinets.
- Seeing as you're not meeting the person you're selling to, there can be complications or fraud.
Craigslist:
Pros:
+ You can sell your large furniture here.
+ You meet face to face with buyers.
+ Cash in hand at time of pickup.
+ No fees! Craigslist is completely free!
Cons:
- You can only sell locally.
- Buyers can be hard to contact and sometimes might not show up for pickup.
- Strangers in your home (but not in all cases if you wish to meet in a public place)
- Email inbox or phone might blow up with replies (which isn't entirely a bad thing if you need to sell).
Don't be too discouraged by the cons of these sites. I have used both and they can come in handy when you need to get rid of excess clutter. These are just two sites, but you can explore your other options like having a yard sale. Happy selling!
